Household accounts

From a single-day sort to a multi-session project, these are the experiences households describe after working with Threadkin.

"My late mother-in-law left behind decades of paper — everything from old utility bills to land title copies and handwritten letters we could not quite place. I had been putting off dealing with it for two years. The Records Organising Day was the push we needed. Nurul Ain's team was patient, and by the end of the day the dining table was clear and everything was in labeled folders I could actually find things in."

"We went with the Cataloging Project for my parents' home in Bangsar. Four sessions over about six weeks. The printed catalog book at the end was something I had not expected to find as useful as I did — it means I can look up any document without opening every folder. The only thing I would flag is that it does take time, so clear your schedule for each visit."

"We have three generations living under one roof, which means three generations of papers. Threadkin helped us build a system that makes sense across all of it. What I appreciated was that they did not push us toward any particular structure — they kept asking us what made sense to our family. The Annual Subscription means we do not fall behind again."

"My father has boxes going back forty years. We booked the Organising Day half expecting to need another session, but the team moved through it more efficiently than I expected while still taking the time we needed with older photographs and certificates. The session summary they left is something my siblings and I have both referred to since."

"We were preparing for a house move and the thought of boxing up the paper situation we had accumulated was honestly quite stressful. A colleague suggested Threadkin. The Records Organising Day meant we packed boxes of labeled folders instead of boxes of loose paper. Worth it entirely."

"The team was professional and knew how to handle old documents with care. My grandmother's correspondence from the 1960s was handled with the same attention as current paperwork, which mattered to us. I had a few questions after the session and got a clear response the same day."

Three siblings, one house, sixty years of paper

The situation

Three adult siblings were managing the family home after their father moved to a care facility. The house held sixty years of records: property documents, correspondence in three languages, photograph albums across different formats, and boxes that had not been opened in years. The siblings lived in different parts of the Klang Valley and needed to act before a house sale.

What we did

A Records Organising Day to establish broad order, followed by the Legacy Cataloging Project across four sessions with all three siblings present at different times. The catalog was built with the siblings' intended audience in mind — their father — so that he could follow what was held on his behalf in a format he could navigate.

The outcome

Over seven weeks, all materials were sorted, labeled, and cataloged. The printed catalog contained 214 entries. The father reviewed it on his first visit home and found three documents he had not known were in the house. The house sale proceeded with the folder held by the eldest sibling. All three described the process as less emotionally difficult than they had expected.

"We thought sorting through our parents' things would be overwhelming. Having a team there with a clear method made it manageable, not distressing."— One of three siblings, Chow Kit

Case study · Pandan Indah household

An annual subscription that replaced a recurring source of friction

The situation

A household with two working adults and two children in school. Records were never badly disorganised, but every time something was needed — a passport application, a school reference document, a property matter — it took significantly longer to locate than it should have. The folder from their Cataloging Project two years earlier had started to drift as new documents arrived without a clear home.

What we did

Enrolled in the Annual Maintenance Subscription. Four quarterly visits across twelve months, each of around two hours. Each visit reviewed new materials, filed them into the existing system, updated the catalog index, and noted any items that had been used or relocated since the previous visit.

The outcome

After twelve months, the household reported that locating any specific document now took no more than two minutes. The adults described the folder as something they actually open with confidence rather than with reluctance. They renewed for a second year.

"The difference between dreading the folder and trusting it is entirely worth a quarterly visit."— Household member, Pandan Indah
